This is one of three florals that I started back in 2014. Originally, I partially covered the canvases with paper materials - this one from an old Russian book - and drew on the outline of two flowers using thick acrylic paint. It also has sections of 3D crackle and other texture. After applying these background elements, I must have lot interest in the project because they have been sitting around as they were for over 8 years. I finally got motivated to complete these florals, and this is the first one done. I feel like flowers are so overused in art... everyone paints pictures of flowers lol. So, anytime I have made a floral painting, my objective has been to do something new and different that hasn't already been done a thousand times before. I like texture and abstract... The background was covered a multitude of colours in a quasi-camouflage application, then partially covered with white paint to tone it down but allow some of those bright colours to peek through. I have been working with barcodes a lot lately, so I was inspired to put a colorful barcode into the flowers. This painting has a wire attached so it is ready to hang on your walls. Edges have been finished with black paint. It has been signed by the artist on the front and back of the canvas. |

Title: The Sun
Size: 36" x 24" Medium: Acrylic on Stretched Canvas Year Made: 2022 Price: CA$3,500 "The Sun" is the third painting I completed from my Recycling Project series. It was created on a recycled (previously used) canvas.
This painting is my rendition of The Sun tarot card. The Sun card is widely regarded as one of the best cards in the deck as it represents good luck, success, one's true purpose in life, periods of good fortune, and fulfilment of dreams. I love Tarot cards and have used a Rider Waite Tarot deck for many years. The original card depicts a naked child riding a horse (which I obviously chose to omit from my rendition lol), but I wanted to keep all other aspects of the original card. The four sunflowers represent the four minor arcana: cups, swords, wands and pentacles. Intuitive arts are subject to interpretation, but when I read the cards for myself, cups generally represent love and emotions; swords represent challenges; wands are associated with change and new ideas; and pentacles deal with money and finances. Every so often I get the itch to paint something super detailed - like the mandalas in the sun and sunflowers. This piece took a verrrrry long time to complete! I filmed the creation of this painting from start-to-finish and you can watch the video on my YouTube channel. Edges are finished with clean black paint. The canvas has a wire on the back so it is ready to hang. This painting has been signed by the artist on the front and back. |
