Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia (2023) - part of my Canadian Landscape series

Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia was the sixth painting I completed from my Canadian Landscape series. It was completed in July 2023. My goal for this series was to capture the essence of each province and territory in a painting.

When I think of Nova Scotia, I think of Peggy's Cove! The white lighthouse standing tall beside the Atlantic ocean is pretty iconic. Peggy's Cove is one of those places I think every Canadian would recognize, so it only made sense to paint it.

To sketch my outline onto the canvas, I used a composite image made from a few different photos, including this one from Unsplash taken by Sara Bach. I ended up enlarging and re-drawing the lighthouse a few times before I felt the scale was right.

The sky is probably my favorite part about this painting. The vibrant rainbow flanked by a full range of royal blues was inspired by a suncatcher that my grandma used to have hanging on her patio door when I was a child.
My Peggy's Cove painting has proven to be a fan favorite when I bring it to shows. People instantly recognize the lighthouse and are drawn in to the bright colors for a closer look.

FUN FACT:
I went on vacation in April and I had Peggy's Cove hanging on a wall behind my bathroom. The bathroom was being renovated while we were away, and the workers used a jackhammer on the floor which rattled the wall. The painting fell into some shelves - leaving a big hole right through the middle of the canvas!! I was heartbroken. Thankfully, I was able to repair the damage and Peggy's Cove is good as new... but if you ever have the chance to see this painting in person, you can try to spot my repair!
The next painting I completed from this series was Northern Lights, Northwest Territories.

Thank you for reading! Be sure to say hello in the comments. You can also follow me on social media for updates about this series, new work, and upcoming shows.
