SIDEWALK CHRONICLES I & II
Acrylic on Canvas, 24" x 24" each SOLD Sidewalk Chronicles I & II are good examples of the new ways I was experimenting with applying paint - pressing it on, dripping it on, and spray-painting it on. These paintings used a light, black and white palette which allowed me to focus on playing with application techniques rather than worrying too much about overall composition.

SHORTCUT
Acrylic on Canvas, 24" x 36" SOLD Shortcut is another good example of my experiments with new application techniques. I was having fun with dripping the paint, pressing paint on, layering the paint, and spray painting different areas. I again kept the palette simple using only two colours: black and white. This allowed me to focus on learning rather than expecting too much from the piece. Shortcut was quite "busy" but these practice pieces were essential for me to learn these new skills and evolve as an artist.

ZION (left)
Acrylic on Canvas, 48" x 12" SOLD INNER PEACE (right)
Acrylic on Canvas, 48" x 12" SOLD Zion and Inner Peace both used very colourful palettes, which was out of my comfort zone at this point. My previous works primarily focused on very limited palettes of only two or three colours, so these two pieces really explored the possibilities of using wider colour palettes.
Zion used a richer palette of deep purple, emerald green, turquoise blues, rusty orange, gold and brown. It also incorporated accents of metallic copper paint. Inner Peace used a lighter palette that blended pastel colours like baby blue, grey, white and gold with deeper colours like rusty orange and reds, purple and brown. |
SUNDAY MORNING I & II
Acrylic on Canvas, 24" x 24" each SOLD Sunday Morning I & II continued my exploration of floral abstracts that began in 2010. These pieces used a limited colour palette of white, grey, pastel blue, brown, and metallic bronze and focused on TEXTURE! The backgrounds of Sunday Morning I & II were covered in a thick acrylic texture medium that is rough to the touch.

OASIS
Acrylic on Canvas, 24" x 24" SOLD Oasis attempted to blend the heavy texture used in my Sunday Morning floral abstracts with the wider colours palette used in Inner Peace. It was rough to the touch and incorporated browns, purple, rusty orange, gold, white, pastel blue, grey and metallic copper paints. Oasis was another "busy" piece from this period, but it really helped me learn about both texture and colour.
