FOREVER YOURS
Acrylic on Canvas, 36" x 24" SOLD Forever Yours was one of the first floral abstracts that I ever made. I have never had any interest in painting flowers or landscapes - or anything non-abstract for that matter! - but, I did like the idea of creating non-traditional floral paintings that had loads of texture, so that is what you see here.
My floral abstracts begin by "drawing" flowers onto the canvas with fluid acrylic paints. After the outlines have dried, I fill in the petals with my fingertips. The background of Forever Yours is covered in an acrylic medium that is rough to the touch. I used a simple color palette of creamy whites, golden yellow, and brown - with accents of metallic bronze. This piece was debuted at ArtWalk 2011 - where it sold very quickly! |
NEW BEGINNINGS
Acrylic on Canvas, 24" x 36" SOLD New Beginnings was another early floral abstract that I made at the same time as Forever Yours. The background of New Beginnings is framed in by a circular design and areas of three-dimensional crackling fissures. I used a darker colour palette of browns, rusty red, golden yellow - and accents of metallic bronze.

SPACE BOUND
Acrylic on Canvas, 24" x 36" SOLD Space Bound was an interesting painting I made that sought to fuse a few different application techniques. The center section featured matte acrylic paints that were applied using a palette knife. This section was outlined by two strips of glossy, colourful boxes. I used a darker colour palette of browns, rusty red, golden yellow, navy blue, and white. Space Bound was one of the few paintings I made during this period that didn't incorporate metallic bronze paint!

VORTEX
Acrylic on Canvas, 12" x 12" SOLD Vortex played with a similar colour palette and application technique as Space Bound - using a palette knife to apply thick, matte acrylic paint in a circular motion around the canvas. This was another rare painting from this period that didn't incorporate metallic accents!

SIESTA
Acrylic on Canvas, 36" x 36" SOLD Siesta was a continuation of the "sectioned off" style I had been developing in previous years. It has a similar composition to International Passport, but with a different colour palette. I began learning how to refine my application of paint splatters and prints, and the way I drew on the surface with fluid acrylics to finish my paintings.

FORBIDDEN
Acrylic on Canvas, 24" x 36" SOLD Forbidden, like Siesta, continued exploring my "sectioned off" style of painting - where an off-center strip of crackle paste divides the canvas into two sections. This piece used a rich palette of reds, browns and metallic bronze. Forbidden incorporated two stencils that I handmade - a fleur de lis in the bottom right corner, and a decorative scroll design down the left side. A strip of bronze paint dots created the illusion of studs running down the canvas.

CHRYSOS
Acrylic on Canvas, 24" x 48" SOLD Chrysos translates to "gold". This is another "sectioned off" painting that uses a single colour palette: golden yellow. Variations of the same colour were applied in different ways and texture mediums were used to create visual interest throughout the piece.

FAITH Mixed Media on Canvas, 24" x 20" SOLD Both of these pieces have a similar composition and use similar colours. This was my first attempt at including collage elements into my work - both pieces have newspaper clippings embedded in them!
