Danielle HarsheninThank you for visiting my online gallery. I am a professional, self-taught and self-represented visual artist; working out of my home studio in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, BC, Canada.

My work has developed into a very modernistic, trendy style since I began experimenting with acrylic paints back in late 2007. I learn something new every time I undertake a canvas – but always make sure to incorporate countless layers, loads of texture, modern prints and metallic accents. Quite often my pieces will have older works buried underneath them, establishing a unique relationship between old and new. My most recent works will begin with the canvas being divided into sections. Each of which will then be worked on individually, contributing something special to the painting as a whole. Each area of the canvas is one meant for the eye to study, the overall piece of art being one for the eye to admire.

I work only with high-quality acrylic paints and mediums – mostly Golden brand products. All of my supplies are purchased locally and are used on gallery-stretched canvas. My paintings are fun pieces of art, designed to suit contemporary spaces - you will not find any traditional painting styles in my work. I am passionate about playing with paint and allowing it go beyond its traditionally accepted borders.

To keep up-to-date with my current projects and new work, upcoming exhibitions and art shows, check my News page or visit me on Facebook.

I look forward to connecting with you!

ARTIST STATEMENT

I began painting with acrylics a year and a half ago, in search of a hobby. I discovered so much more.

I am a self-taught, contemporary abstract artist. I am captivated by the diverse rhythm and flow of the world around me, and compelled to paint from the heart. Each piece moves at its own beat, and my styles are reminiscent of the senses and emotions which allure me.

In every canvas lies the opportunity to create something beautiful. My work is all about freedom, and I paint in the comfort of knowing that there are no mistakes. Inspiration has come to me in many ways - images that I have seen, a word or phrase that has stuck with me, and even in dreams I have had, of paintings that I then recreate in my conscious state. I feel now that I couldn't stop painting even if I tried. It is out of my mortal mind's authority - my art is the work of my spirit.

When I am painting, I feel enlightened and at peace. I hope that the blissful energies I feel while painting, will be passed on to others who stop to view my work, and to those who choose to hang them in their personal spaces. My pieces are objects meant to invoke positivity and inspiration in its beholder - emotions which directly and indirectly are beneficial to everyone.

Thank you for supporting original artwork, and may my pieces bring as much joy to you as they have to me in creating them.
